Sweet Dreams Are Made of…These Beds!

By: Danielle Clockel and Melody Richardson

A good night’s rest is an important aspect of health that often gets sacrificed in our busy lives. Let’s start changing that! Get excited about getting to sleep by choosing a bed you love.

Vanguardbed

The Anderkit bed from Vanguard is beautiful in its simplicity. Featuring an upholstered headboard as well as a canopy, the simple shape keeps this piece current and fresh.

canopybed

Talk about sweet dreams! Joseph Walsh’s Enignum canopy bed is a sculptural, ethereal cocoon sure to lull you into a perfectly serene slumber.

Resourcedecorbed

All of us went a little gaga over this bed from Resource Decor. The Duke poster bed is the sleek, modern canopy bed of your dreams.

Anthropologiebed

Maybe your home is a little too petite for a grand four poster bed. No problem! Get the drama of a canopy without sacrificing space with this curved rattan bed from Anthropologie.

CB2bed

A bed doesn’t have to be extravagant to be a knockout. Take the Jarvis bed from CB2. With a mid century spindle headboard and 100% leather pad, it has a unique masculine flair that makes us swoon.

Think about it — the more you love your bed, the more you’ll want to dive in and drift off to sleep to recharge. Set aside some time to relax, you deserve it!

Design Challenge: Bedroom Solutions

By: The Balance Design Team

Last week Shelby outlined her wish list for her master bedroom, including a headboard for her bed, new nightstands, lighting, and a vanity area. Each of us browsed her Pinterest board and created our take on a perfectly “Shelby” bedroom.

Stephanie’s Solution

Shelby has a fun-loving, adventurous personality that I wanted to bring out in her room design. The low upholstered modern platform bed lets the organic wallpaper create a bold statement wall. The vanity (which is actually a children’s desk) has ample storage for Shelby’s collection of funky and fun jewelry. Her accessory style inspired my choices for the vanity stool, pendants, and mirror, which all have touches of gold. And of course, I had to add a hand knotted rug that can be used in Shelby’s next home too!

Elisabeth’s Solution

I was inspired by Shelby’s love of texture and the perfect shade of blue in creating this Bali-tastic Bedroom Boutique. This water-meets-print wallpaper from Eskayel is sure to motivate Shelby’s creative world while the organic linear black and white rug grounds the room (literally). The classic floating shelf is simply smart, providing a platform for this modern woven marvel of a pendant. The canopy bed is a new absolute favorite of everyone at Balance Design. Finally, a beautiful challenge for Shelby: root plants in glass by taking a cutting and growing her own piece of art in water. I hope this design inspires art, nature, and light for morning and night (intentional rhyming included).

Danielle’s Solution

Keeping in mind Shelby’s request for a clean, sleek look, I focused on things she loves (with a little inspiration from her Pinterest board). The dresser currently in the room will be removed, making room for a printmaker’s drawer desk with a rounded rectangular mirror to act as a vanity/primping area. The drawers provide stylish space for jewelry, makeup, brushes, etc. An accent wall painted in her “spirit color” will pick up the blue accents in this vintage rug, which really pops against an underlying sisal. I took a small leap with the bed — Shelby requested ideas for a headboard, but I know from her Pinterest that she loves sleek, modern canopy beds. Replacing the mirrored nightstands with these crisp marble shelves keeps the room clutter-free (and provides the perfect perch for an aloe plant or two!).

Melody’s Solution

Shelby’s love of natural wood really inspired this space. Using walnut furniture accented with metal and glass creates a natural-feeling, put together look. This desk used as a makeup vanity will provide some much needed jewelry storage and a space to sit and get ready for the day with the large round mirror. The wall mural is an homage to her favorite color, teal. This effect is more subtle than full on paint, but gives enough color and impact to still make a statement. The glass shelves are 10′ deep so she will be able to use them as nightstands without the bulk. Even a piece like this lovely wood and glass terrarium would fit (bonus: these plants require minimal attention). Finally, the pendants for either side of the bed add the little bit of sparkle for Shelby that she brings to us each day.

Stay tuned next week when Shelby announces the winner!

Kidspiration! For the Young and Young At Heart.

Room Envy

Having one of our kids’ room designs featured in Atlanta Magazine this month really inspired us to take another look at these rooms. One of our favorite projects of this kind was for two young ladies in Midtown. They surprised us with the sophisticated taste they showed on their Pinterest boards, and we were able to bring their vision to life.

Light, airy, textural pieces give this teenage room stylistic maturity without sacrificing fun. The whole family has great taste in rugs, and for this older sister we layered a Moroccan with a sheepskin for ultimate plush comfort. She loves to read, and what better spot than in her whimsical hanging chair, layered with colorful pillows? The vanity is a great spot for dressing, playing with makeup, and feeling beautiful. The window panels add a little edge with aged brass studs, and pops of her favorite color teal are brought in through pillows and artwork. (Not shown here, her entire closet is painted the same color!)

The younger sister knew exactly which shade of coral she wanted in her room: Benjamin Moore’s Summer Sun Pink channelled a fun, youthful vibe that carries over into the furnishings. Inspired by her dad’s love of kilim rugs, we chose one with a fun, feminine feel. The pops of turquoise on the turned nightstands modernize these more traditional pieces, and tie in the lovely accents on the window panels and bedding trim. The gallery wall displays her personal artwork, creating a light and playful overall effect.

Modern Cabin: A Step By Step Guide

By: Shelby Adamson

It’s that time of year. We’re craving the warm embrace of woodsy log cabins, roaring fires, cozy flannel blankets, and of course hot chocolate. But who says we have to sacrifice style? We’ve curated the perfect pieces to take you away to the modern cabin of your dreams.

antlerchandelier

What’s a cabin without a chandelier made out of antlers? The chrome finish on this one elevates it from drab to chic.

staghornplanter

Don’t let the colder months be completely grey. Bring in a little green to keep things lively with this live edge staghorn fern planter.

liveedgebed

Speaking of live edge, this bed is reminiscent of wood grain cabin walls, but with a simple yet sexy update.

coffeetable

And who says wooden finishes have to be dark? This reclaimed Douglas fir coffee table is coated with a layer of silver that enhances the character of the wood.

leatherchair

Oak and leather combine in this beautiful chair. Unlike grandpa’s lazy boy, this chair will age beautifully and never go out of style.

hideottoman

A hide rug is a hallmark of a luxury log cabin. This hair on hide ottoman not only adds texture and warmth, but also provides a great place to prop your feet up after a long hike.

hudsonbayblanket

Warm, cozy, and classic. Hudson Bay blankets are a great way to add a pop of color to wood tones.

rug

The rich red of this handwoven flatweave rug says “woodland cabin” but the contemporary pattern says “fresh and modern” in the best possible way.

Clean lines, warm colors, and updated fixtures and finishes keep the comfort of a traditional log cabin, but give it a much needed makeover.

Design Classics to be Thankful For.

By: Stephanie Andrews

With tomorrow being Thanksgiving, it only seems appropriate to share some tried and true design classics that we are thankful for.

arteriorsmirror1

A round mirror, like this Expedition Mirror from Arteriors, makes a statement of simple beauty whether in a pair or grouped with other shapes.

hanswegnerchairs4

The wishbone chair is one of our absolute favorites. This Hans Wegner piece instantly adds style to a dining room in a set or alone as an accent chair.

privatecloudbed2

We are dying to use this Private Cloud bed in one of our designs. Wouldn’t you love to see it in our portfolio?

chesterfield1

A classic Chesterfield sofa in rich leather or plush velvet is the epitome of style.

hanswegnerchairs3

We love Hans Wegner! His designs are stunning. This lounge chair can pull together any room.

cirquechandelier

The concentric circles and metallic finish of the Double Cirque Chandelier can lift a breakfast nook to new heights.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Design Pulp! We are most thankful for our families, friends, clients, vendors, and readers for supporting us in all we do. Thank you!
