Sophisticated Style: The Sitting Room

By: Stephanie Andrews

The interior designer/client relationship is a very special one, and we absolutely fell in love when these recent empty nesters approached us about redesigning their home. Their inspiration included pictures from the New York Times style section, their personal art collection, photos from their travels, and a cherished turn of the century family quilt.

This couple wanted a home that reflected their personalities and sense of humor in a beautiful and comfortable way. Our favorite space to design was this front room, featuring the framed family quilt over a show stopping emerald velvet sofa. We revamped the fireplace, found this awesome mid century chair, and pulled it all together with the perfect wool/silk rug. The cherry on top? Beautiful brass accents.

Design Challenge: And the Winner Is…

By: Shelby Adamson Pawlak

This week we conclude our design challenge of my bedroom. I have chosen a design from one of our amazing designers and let me tell you, this was one of the HARDEST choices I have ever had to make!

First, I wanted to share the winner of our voters on Facebook and Instagram, and it was a close one! The design challenge winner from all of your popular votes was…Danielle!

My overall winner along with my husband’s input (it is our room, after all) was a really tough choice. Our two favorites were Stephanie and Danielle, but after careful consideration and much deliberation our pick is…Stephanie!

I honestly loved so many pieces from each of our designers here, so here is my compilation of everyone’s choices to create the perfect respite for my husband and myself:

It was so enlightening to be on the client side of things, to have my input reviewed and put through the Balance Design “filter.” It made me realize how important communication is, and the questions that I, as a designer, need to ask my clients. There were suggestions made that matched my Pinterest board that I loved, and it made me feel like my voice was really heard, but there were also things that I would never think of implementing that I ended up loving. I believe that as a team, our collaboration at Balance Design makes us strong designers, and as a client I am incredibly happy with the outcome. Now just stay tuned for the implementation! Thank you for all of your input!
