Holiday Siesta

By: Kate Donnelly

Between traveling, food prep, and that double whammy of tryptophan and red wine, Thanksgiving can be exhausting. Once the pie has been eaten and the dishes cleaned, we are all ready for a little turkey-induced coma.

We found some very comfy pieces to retire to after Thanksgiving indulgence. So put up your feet, drown out your crazy relatives, and take a well deserved nap on one of these finds:

nap1We love love the bohemian vibe of this Roche Bobois Sofa designed by Hans Hopfer. The low profile and wide cushions make it great for sitting, laying, or lounging. With room enough for the whole family!

nap2

After an evening full of family rhetoric, many of us will feel like fainting. Hopefully there is a stunning antique fainting couch like this one somewhere close by.

nap3

It’s a bean bag, it’s a hammock…no, it’s a Beanock! For grown ups and kids alike, the Le Beanock brings comfort and fun. I think this looks like the perfect place to cuddle up for some Z’s.

nap4One look at the dreamy Enignum Canopy Bed already has us in a trance. With it’s organic curved wood and flowing canopy, this bed whispers instant relaxation.

Airstreams, Treehouses and Tugboats…Your Next Getaway?

intBy: Kate Donnelly

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to get away to Asheville, NC on a weekend trip to do some hiking and take in the beautiful fall colors. Instead of going the traditional hotel route, I decided to embark on my very first Airbnb adventure, and rented a vintage airstream trailer. My tiny weekend abode was full of character and genius ways of utilizing space. The trip convinced me that from here onward, I will look for quirky, fun, unique places to stay wherever we go. Perusing the website gave me hundreds of ideas for future vacations. Check out some of these inspiring rentals:

I was pleasantly surprised to find this treehouse oasis was right in our backyard. Located in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta, this retreat can make you feel like you’re living in a Swiss Family Robinson fantasy.

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to stay on a tugboat for the night? Me neither…but this listing for a tugboat house on the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon looks like an awesome place to stay.

After staying in an Airstream this weekend, I’ve become fascinated with them. I love the retro look of this Vintage Airstream Trailer outside of Austin, TX. With a kitchen, private deck, and hot tub, this silver bullet looks like a little slice of paradise. The decor suits this airstream perfectly – bright and cheery, just like I would be if I woke up here!

Whether across the country or, in our case, a few hours down the road, we hope that we’ve given you some inspiration for your next weekend getaway.

Primetime Style

By: Kate Donnelly

The arrival of fall means the much-awaited return of our favorite TV shows. While you might be watching the drama unfold, we have our eyes on the background. Set design is a fascinating field for designers to draw inspiration from. The spaces our favorite characters occupy can tell us a lot about their personalities, and it’s easy to implement some of these styles into your own home.

madmen logo

The award-winning set designs of Mad Men reflect the modern mid-century style, which was all the rage circa 1969 (and still is in 2014!). This style is defined by wood veneers, warm colors, and clean modern lines. The penthouse Don shares with his wife Megan reflects this perfectly. Here are some pieces to help you channel your inner Don Draper:Madmen

a. Classic Eames Lounge Chair by Herman Miller b. St. Claire Wood Mid- Century Lamp by LampsPlus c. Nixon Ottoman by Thrive Furniture

THE MINDY PROJECT: Logo.

We can’t get enough of  The Mindy Project, and especially Dr. Mindy Lahiri’s bold, flirty, and feminine style. Her personality is perfectly reflected in the style of her apartment: cheerful and light with pops of bright happy colors. From colorful chandeliers to boldly printed chairs, Mindy’s style is as fun to watch as her character. Bring some Mindy into your world with the following looks:

On Scandal, the style of Olivia Pope’s wardrobe is directly reflected in her apartment. She prefers subtle neutral tones, rich textures, and understated elegance. The beautiful muted tones in her living room are accentuated with the occasional pop of blue. Want to bring some of Miss Pope’s decor into your own home? Consider it handled. Here are our top picks:
